Its objective was to serve the electric energy market polarized by Belém, and the high loads that would be installed as a result of the implementation of electro-intensive projects, based on the aluminum-alumina complex. The transmission line between Presidente Dutra (MA) and Boa Esperança (PI) promoted interconnection with the Northeast region.Work began on the construction of the Hydroelectric Plant and in 1970 the municipality of Tucuruí began to gain the necessary infrastructure. An airport and villages are built to house workers, engineers and other construction workers - (Vila Permanente and Temporary Villages I and II). Eletronorte's villas are closed condominiums with treated water and sewage, paved streets, lighting, supermarkets, schools, kindergartens, clubs, among other amenities. On November 22, 1984, the President of the Republic, from the military era, João Figueiredo, inaugurated the first generator of the first (1st) stage of the Tucuruí Hydroelectric Plant, with an installed capacity of 4,000 MW.
